Tempting 3?

Presenting my own, original version of Tempting II. Would that make it Tempting III? I'm very happy with it. Perhaps it could have been a little smaller though. The wavy appearance on the right side is the fabric buckling.....not body rolls!

Instead of the original version's buckled, ribbed band I've done a cabled band. Now I have another design decision to make. Should I leave the cable unadorned.......

......or should I add little pearl-like beads?

I do really like the beads but I'm in LOVE with the washability of this top. Done in TLC Cotton Plus it is completely carefree. I can throw it in the washer AND dryer without worry. If I add beads I might have to hand wash it to protect the finish of the beads. Handwashing in itself is not that big of a deal, but a sweater this heavy and made of cotton will take forever to air dry! Past experience tells me that sweaters like that spend more time in the laundry than they do being worn. I guess I could go ahead and sew the beads on and then just take them off later if the laundry ruins them? Opinions?

I think your top is absolutely gorgeous! The beads would add a touch of elegance, but if washability is very important, then I do think it looks well enough on its own.

it looks great! I love it with the beads, like katherine says, it adds a touch of elegance to it. I know that if I had it with the beads though, I would probably only wear it on special occasions, though. Not sure if that's the same with you. :)

Either way, it looks great!

[I made a ss top in TLC Cotton Plus and I LOVE being able to toss it in the washer/dryer -- I definitely wear it more often because of it.]

Wow, your knitting is impressive, and flawless. A beautiful knit. I love the beads added, definitely adds to the top.

That is beautiful! I love the beads too, but if using them would curb your wearing (due to washing), then I'd pass... it looks great as is! I LOVE your mod to the pattern, its perfect!

I really do like what you've done with the band. I'm not there yet, but have been playing with the idea of knitting a lacey band similar to what Rowan used on Audrey a couple of seasons ago. Nice revision.

First of all, I love, LOVE your version... I would make that! Any chance you might post your modifications? I wouldn't have any idea how to make the cabled neckline curve the way it's supposed to without messing up the cable. That is just so cool.

As for the beads... I like it well enough without them. I was already wowed. The beads might be a nice touch, but I don't think it'd be worth it for me to take a machine wash sweater and have to handwash it.

Of course... I do have a sweater with beads on it that I machine wash , and as far as I can tell they're none the worse for doing so. I always (beads or not) turn my clothes inside out to wash them, anyways, so whatever wear comes from the washing machine happens on the inside, maximizing the time the clothing will look good.

Oh, my goodness. I love your version oh-s--much better. If I ever get around to knitting me a Tempting 2 .. I want to knit a Tempting 3 instead!!

Add the pearls. Pearls are pretty!

I love the beads, but I think it looks absolutely elegant without. How about one in black with beads for dressy?

It's beautiful! I'd keep it beadless but that's because as a rule I don't handwash. And air-drying cotton? I may not live so long.

I think it's beautiful the way it is. Don't mess with perfection. And, please tell us about your mods. I would love to make one with the cables.

"Anonymous", check out my blog entry for July 19th, 2006. For now, that is as good as the directions get.

That's *really* great, Marlene! It looks marvelous on you. I think I'd vote for no pearls. :)

Beautiful and I'd go without beads. Wear it with pearls when you want the sparkle :)

Wow. I think your version is *so* much better! I'd knit it in a heartbeat. :-)

If you don't mind removing the beads later if the washer ruins them, then I say add them.

I love the beads, but I think it looks great without too! And it looks gorgeous on you! Hope you cool off soon.

Beautiful job! I am not a big fan of beads, so unsurprisingly I vote for no beads. It is plenty elegant without them, and you'd always have to worry about them coming off. Machine wash and dry, though -- you just can't put a price on that!
