Wee Wascally Wabbit

This little fellow was started many months ago and then abandoned when the head went terribly wrong. His forehead was really tall and totally out of proportion for the rest of his face.

I taught a needle felting class for a few guild members this afternoon and while the others were working on the heads for their little jointed bears I gave "Wascally" some needed head surgery. I chopped off the top of his head, removed some length and then needle felted it back together again.

I think he turned out quite cute.

He's a wee little fellow, only one and a half inches to the top of his head when seated in that position. That's a standard keyboard he's sitting on.

Lying down he's three inches from nose to toes.

That is flat-out the sweetest thing I have ever seen. Can you post where you got the pattern? The sheer teeniness of it makes me want to give it a spin...

Thanks everyone. The tiny, thread jointed, needle felted critters are 5 to 6 hours of steady work so I don't exactly churn them out, but your compliments make it seem worth it.

Jo, the ears were done with lots of stab, stab, stab, stabbity, stab stab. Seriously, the ears are just needle felted like the rest of him. The wool is felted firmly enough that they stand on their own. The shaping is just done by forming with the fingers and stabbing strategically to make the folds hold.

Carrie, there is no real "pattern" for needle felting. Each little critter kind of develops as you go along. I couldn't make two exactly the same if I tried. There is a very good instructional booklet that walks you through the steps of making a bear and I just adapted for a rabbit.

One hint I could offer is to find a toy or animal ornament that you like the basic shape and features of and use it as a guide.

I change our desktop picture fairly often Anne, but yes, right now it is the seated picture of Wascally.
