The First of Many

I finished my mobius Saori cowl this morning.

a5996

I'll have better pictures later when I have more time.

a5995

I really enjoyed weaving this and I absolutely love the end product.

a5999

It's so easy to wear. A lot less fuss than a traditional scarf or shawl. Once it's on it stays in place without constant rearranging.

There will be more of these for sure. Many more!

Tying the Fringe

Tying the fringe.

Once the fringe is tied I will be going over the whole thing pulling the hairier yarn bits to the surface. I want as much texture as possible showing. I think I'll likely add a few beads here and there and in any spots that need a little something extra I might do a bit of surface embellishment.

I Could Not Stop

I decided to weave just a little bit tonight before I did some more work on a doll clothing commission that is begging to be completed.

September 24, 2013

When I realized how close I was to having woven the entire yardage necessary for the möbius cowl I've been working on I just had to keep going!

Now to twist and attach.

And of course seeing as this is the first möbius cowl I've ever done curiosity got the best of me and the whole "untie, re-tension, twist, and weave the warp in as weft" bit just HAD to be tried.

Yes, tried ---- and then completed! Next thing I knew it was late and no sewing for the commission had happened. Great cowl though! When I get the fringes twisted and the finishing work done I'll be back with some pictures of the completed project.

Inching Forward

Things have been so hectic and stressful around here lately that I've only been able to deal with each day a moment at a time, concentrating on the necessary and not much more. Consequently not much weaving has been happening for several weeks. I decided yesterday to work at finding a few moments to sit down at the loom every day. Even if I can only find 5 minutes, I'd like to have the zen of a daily weaving moment.

Möbius cowl in progress.

This is some recent progress I've made on a möbius cowl. Only a little left before I release the initial part, give it a twist, re-tension, and weave the warp in as weft to join. It could take a while though as life is not allowing me as much time at the loom as I would like.

Neelie Gets One Too

I had enough of the red size 30 crochet cotton to make Neelie a Christmas dress too.

Neelie's Christmas dress.

They are turning out so cute that I have ordered what I hope will be a good substitute for the hard to find size 30 crochet cotton. If it works I'll be able to make the little dresses in white with red, royal blue, or pink for now, maybe additional colours in the future.

Too Early For Christmas!

Okay, so it's a bit early for Christmas clothing, but I found a small ball of red, size 30, crochet cotton in a thrift store last week and just could not resist making it into a Christmas dress for Penny.

Penny's Christmas dress

After the photo of the dress went up on Flickr I had a few requests for a modelled shot.

Penny was more than happy to oblige.

But now she's a little sad that I'm asking her to take it off again. I don't want her to tire of it before December even arrives. I don't care that there are already Christmas items available in some retail stores. It's too early for Christmas!

Becky and Bobby Want to Travel Too

Becky and Bobby have been sorely neglected around here lately. Turns out that as cute as Realpukies are they just are not a size that works well for me. Becky and Bobby have decided that they would like to go live somewhere where they will get more time and attention.

I'm asking $195 US plus shipping for Bobby. He is a Fairyland RealPuki Pupu with a darling custom faceup by Ban Sidhe of New York.

Lil' cutie

The faceup has a tiny shiny spot on the left cheek. It appears to be a spot where the sealant did not take properly. It seems quite stable though. The spot does not seem to be wearing further or flaking.

damage to faceup

Becky is a Fairyland Realpuki Popo. She has a closed eyes faceplate (no open eyed faceplate) that has been expertly given a faceup that brings out her unique spritely character. Look at those little teeth!

wigged

I'm asking $200 US plus shipping for Becky. If you want her custom fit Tibetan mohair wig it is an additional $15.

Although I have 2 Realpukies for sale I only have one official Fairyland box. I adopted Becky as a separate faceplate and found a body for her later, so she has no box. I will let the one box I do have go with whichever purchaser requests it first. For the second sale, if I no longer have the box, I will take $15 off the price of the doll and ship securely in an alternate box.

So, what do you say? Would either of these cuties add a smile to your day?

Parting With a Few Friends

I've decided that I'm going to part with a few of my dolls. I think the hardest to say goodbye to is this first one. She was what those in the hobby call a "grail doll". That one wonderful, hard to find doll that you search forever for hoping that some day it will pop up in the Marketplace and will be affordable.

Juri '08

Juri '08 was that unattainable doll for me, always way more on the secondhand Marketplace than I could ever hope to pay. Then one day I ordered a body for a different, existing head that I had in my collection. The doll broker had a body in stock that, according to the packaging, was exactly what I had ordered so they sent it to me. When it arrived I found that it is a wonderful poser, standing solidly and with little effort to balance it, BUT they had mistakenly sent a WHITE skin doll, though I had ordered a normal skin doll.

WS Juri '08

Rather than have me send the doll back at their expense they chose to send me a free "event" doll head that would match the body. I gave a hesitant yes on condition that the head be my much coveted Juri '08 head. Turns out it was available and they were willing to ship it!

Beautiful Baldie

When the head arrived I sent it to Ban Sidhe for a faceup, also including the hands and feet in the shipment so that a manicure and pedicure could be done at the same time.

faceup and manicure

Ban does such a wonderful job! She also pierced the ears and made her some lovely earrings.

wonderful poser

If someone would like to give her a new home she will be up for sale on DoA in a few days. For $750 plus shipping. She comes with her box, the Fairyland manual, and her eyes.

Because her custom wig is such a beautiful match to the faceup colours, for an additional $25 I will send along her wig cap and the gorgeous, soft, hand dyed, Tibetan mohair wig which was made by "TinyBear/SleepingElf".

slight blue shadow

Disclosure: She has an ever so slight shadow of a blue stain on the pelvis piece. I think it was dye transfer from clothing. Anyway, it is so light that I cannot pick it up in a photograph.I cannot see any other flaws on this doll. She is not yellowed, though she may be a creamier white than she was brand new. I'm not sure as she is my only white skin doll and I have nothing to compare her to.

I've only decided to part with this beauty because she is white skin and doesn't really fit in with my other dolls.

If you are interested my email address is on my profile page.

And Onward I Weave

Some warping errors are best fixed with a screwdriver and a helpful, handy, husband. If you guessed that the error shown in the picture yesterday was that I had missed the flippin' back beam when warping you were right. With my husband's help we removed the back beam, tucked it under the warp where it belonged, and then screwed the back beam back on again.

new warp

And now I'm up and weaving again.

new warp

This will be a mobius cowl when I'm finished. I'm loving how it's looking so far.

Over half way now.

Flibbertigibbet

Flibbertigibbet*. It's a word my mom used at times like this.

NOOOoooooo!

I had always thought that it was just a nonsense word she had made up. Before using it here as the title of my post I decided I had better check to see if it might be an actual word so that I didn't use it incorrectly. Turns out it is a real word, and yup, I'm using it correctly.

If you know what's wrong in the picture sing out in the comments.

Arrrrgh! Grrrrr!

*Noun1.flibbertigibbet - a female fool
fool, muggins, saphead, tomfool, sap - a person who lacks good judgment
