For once being a cushion, those are some damn cute socks!! I am trying to get the hang of dpns so I can try to be like you and make socks out of cushions....
Aswanson, I don't use dp needles to do small circular pieces like socks. I use a 36" to 40" circular needle and The Magic Loop technique. I bought the booklet which has very good step by step instructions. You can purchase it online: http://www.theknitter.com/malote.html or at your favorite yarn shop.
