Happy Saint Patrick's Day!

Are you wearing green today for Saint Patrick's Day? Although I'm not Irish I still make a bit of an effort to wear green on March 17. I think it's a leftover from my school days when not wearing green, Irish or not, was likely to get you pinched. this year I also made a little green doll's dress.

The model is Ruby Red Fashion Friend's Sara. She is wearing a dress I sewed using a Adams-Harris pattern, "Kate". The dress is supposed to be worn with a little pinafore, but I'm still waiting for a lace insertion for that. The leggings and faux long sleeves were sewn long ago when I had ball jointed dolls.

Happy Saint Patrick's Day!

StoDoll Eggy's Introduction

I've been so busy rushing to get the knitting patterns for DreamHigh Studio's micro doll Pocca ready for publication that I completely forgot to introduce a newcomer around here. Meet StoDoll "Eggy", renamed "Betty" after arriving here.

I ordered her as a "full set", meaning she came with the wig, eyes, outfit, and shoes pictured above, which is a good thing because I was so caught up in the designing for micro-doll Pocca that I didn't have time to work with her much at first.

(I know! Her expression does look like she was feeling the lack of attention!)

The pattern collection for DreamHigh Studio's Pocca was published a few days ago, so now I can knit and/or sew a few things for Betty. This dress is the first of what will hopefully become a nice new wardrobe for her.

She still looks a little sad. Maybe she's disappointed that it's only one dress after she waited so long?

Fortunately Betty fits into the clothing from my Pukipuki line of knitting patterns. She is on a stodoll S body, which is much like an ob11 body but with legs that are 5mm longer and with stronger joints.

The StoDoll body is amazing at posing unsupported!

True "ball jointed dolls" are strung with elastic cord, which often makes them "kicky" and prone to having their elastic stretch out over time leaving them less stable and needing restringing, which can be difficult.

The StoDoll body has more of a mechanical joint and it holds varied poses beautifully.

A Boy in a Dress

With each day that passes Pocca seems more and more like a boy. I've referred to him as such since the beginning.

There have been some Pocca owners requesting a pattern for a dress though, so this little guy, being the good sport that he is, agreed to model the finished dress. He may end up with one more dress as I test knit the final pattern one more time for accuracy and clarity. After that though, he's really hoping for some more pants!

A Travel Bed!

Lookee what I found for Pocca! An itty bitty travel bed!

I found it at London Drugs in the central aisle where they display seasonal items. It's like a hard shell eyeglass case, except it's much smaller. It was advertised for earbuds, loose change, or jewelry.

I figure it will be a nice safe way to keep Pocca near me for try-ons when I'm designing knitwear, and at the same time it will keep him out of bright sunlight that is known to cause premature yellowing of the resin.

Incoming Teeny Tiny

Preparing for a teeny, tiny little guy (or girl!) to arrive soon, I made him or her a place to sit and have a bite to eat.

This table set is super small! At 1/24th scale it is half the size used in common doll houses.

I have a whole tiny doll house to build but I found the two glues I have on hand aren't really up to the job of gluing the light wood. I'll be searching for some wood modelling glue before I continue.

Fancy Nancy Gets New Clothes

My youngest granddaughter received a "Fancy Nancy" doll for Christmas. Additional clothing doesn't seem to be available for Fancy Nancy and since dressing and redressing the doll is part of the fun I've accepted the challenge of expanding the doll's wardrobe.

Leaving the doll behind for clothing fittings has been out of the question since "Fancy Kenzie", as she's been renamed, has become my granddaughter's constant companion, so an old Disney Animator doll has been my stand-in fitting model. She's shorter in the legs and without the jointed limbs, but otherwise the same size.

The first outfit is "Candy Girl" with both the knitting and sewing patterns by LelleModa on Etsy.

It's the only outfit so far that I've remembered to get a photograph of before the doll wore it home. The following photos were taken after the fact, by my granddaughter, at my request. Here's that first outfit on "Fancy Kenzie":

Those extra joints really make a difference! So much more fun to pose.

Next I used some fabric scraps I had laying around and sewed up a Christmas skirt and blouse. The skirt is just a single layer from the "Candy Girl" skirt pattern, lengthened. The top is the "PuffySleeve Undershirt" from a pattern by SweetPeaCove on Etsy.

Next I used the last remaining scrap of flannel fabric reclaimed from thrift store pajama bottoms, trimmed it with lace from the same thrift store, and created a pair of baby doll pajamas using the "Bloomer Buddies" sewing pattern by PixieFairePatterns on Etsy.

And here's an "action shot".

New Shirt for Ben

I finally found some time today to make a couple of shirts for Ben. Both are blue, but one has short sleeves and the other has long.

Looks like maybe next time I should make the long sleeves a wee bit shorter. Still, not bad for a first try.

Penny is Feeling Neglected

Flame found Penny hidden away in a box a while back and thought it was high time she came out for some air.

Flame and Penny

She's cute as ever but I don't do much with her. If I'm offered a decent price for her she might decide to travel to a home where she gets more attention.

Penny in her room

I'd even part with her gorgeous crib, dresser and toy box for the right price.

Goggy

Her clothing and shoes would be up for grabs too. Open to offers.

Edited to add: Asking $350 US for Penny and her furniture. Extras like clothing and accessories can be negotiated.

Half Done

An itsy bitsy teensy weensy granny square afghan in the making. 30 of the 60 squares needed are now done. They are being made with fingering/sock weight yarn and a 1.75mm hook. Each measures approximately 1.75 inches square.

When complete the afghan will add a cozy ambiance to the Tulusson family's new couch.

DUCK!

Or maybe just open your mouth? His aim is pretty good!

It's a Marshmallow World

Our first small skiff of snow fell today. Most of the snowflakes melted shortly after hitting the ground. Slush doesn't work well for snow angels.

Flame was terribly disappointed but Elfonda took pity,

and allowed him to play indoors with a mound of marshmallows.

He is having so much fun I don't think he'll miss the Rice Krispie squares she had planned.

PS: The here, there, and everywhere alignment of my blog lately is not MY fault. I can't tell you the number of times I've centred everything, or put it all as left alignment, yet when published Blogger just does as it darn well pleases. It's driving me crazy!

Addressing the Cards

Flame has been busy all morning addressing holiday cards to his many friends.

He is careful to choose just the right card for each recipient.

Maybe this one is for YOU?

If he has missed anyone he is truly sorry and wants to take this opportunity, along with me, to wish everyone a very happy holiday filled with lots of love and JOY!

Say Hello to Flame

After some rather lengthy and concerning delays, my little Soso faceplate has arrived home, safe, from the faceup artist's studio.

The postal tracking never did update after clearing Canada Customs. He arrived at my door today unannounced!

I was quick to let him in of course, and he's been entertaining me and making me smile ever since.

His name is FLAME.

He's quite the character.

I just know we're going to have a lot of fun!

He's well balanced and a wonderful poser.

At 19cm he's a wonderful size to knit and sew for. He's not so big that knitting becomes tedious and not so small that sewing is overly fiddly. Perfect!

Say hello to Flame in the comments. I'm pretty sure he'd like the attention!

PJ Bottoms

Overalls and traditionally styled jeans are a lot of work. I wanted something simpler to sew up to expand the wardrobe for the Realfees.

Perfect fit!

Simple pull-on pants were just the thing -- only I had to design the pattern myself and that took a bit of trial and error.

Perfect fit!

Knowing that I experimented first with a flannel rag. It became PJs because even the first effort didn't turn out too bad. Yay!

Perfect Fit!

I've fiddled with the pattern a bit more and come up with an even better fit, which will debut when the Soso faceplate arrives all freshly "faceupped" from Ban's Boutique.

Introducing "Legolas"

Legolas has arrived. You can call him "Leggy" if you wish.

Just don't let him catch you referring to him as "half a man" or anything equally as rude.

He is an excellent kick boxer, so consider yourself warned.

Legolas was rather bored just sitting around, doing nothing, at Redrosette's place,

So she sent him along to me knowing I could make good use of him as size model for knitting and sewing.

He'll be quite busy now that he has a job to do, so you might not see much of him.

But then again, you never know?

Maybe he'll drop by once in awhile for a bit of a cameo appearance.

He tells me he's also considering a second job as a shoe model.

Soso Cute!

Just a quick update. My friend "Ban Sidhe" of "Ban's Boutique" has finished doing the faceup on my Realfee Soso and it will be on its way back to me soon. I have no pictures of my own to show you, but here's a link to her photo.

The eyes pictured are the artist's. I haven't decided what I'll be using yet. I want to try a few different colours and sizes before I order anything.

In the meantime I have nothing new to show you because I've been working every day on a commission I'm doing for Ban Sidhe in exchange for her faceup skills. In addition to her requested hand knit Realfee coat I am throwing in a few "extras" that I think she will like. Once she receives her parcel I'll update here with photos of the finished items.

A Flight To Sweden

The little Mari girl was a delight to have around for a couple of days. She even helped out by doing some fittings for a commissioned piece.

But after awhile I had to face facts. She's not my doll (at least not the faceplate part) and I have to give her up. Stalling was not helping anything.

So bright and early this morning I packaged her up and sent her on her way to her new owner in Sweden.

Bye bye you funny little fishy face. Hopefully we'll see you (an exact look-a-like at least) again in a few months. Maybe by then I'll have a wardrobe ready?
