February All Knit Up

The work on the "My Year in Temperatures" scarf continues. February is now all knit up. The section you see from black garter stitch ridge to black garter stitch ridge is February's section.

Each day is represented by three rows in a colour that coincides with the day's high temperature in Chilliwack. The dots that are placed every 6th stitch on the 2nd row of each day are in the colour that represents the low for that day. Kapisch?

This photo of the knitting since the beginning of the year is probably the last shot where you will see the project in its entirety. A little more knitting and it will be too long to capture in one photograph! At the end of the year my calculations have it at a length of about 10 feet! Perhaps not a practical length, but fun!

Walked the Soles Off

I had to go out to buy a new pair of "Clarks Wave Walks" today. The old pair, my second, was shot.

I walk a lot, 1.5 to 2 hours most days. Today was almost 6 miles. All that walking really wears out a pair of shoes! The ones on the right are now in the trash, the heels showing so much wear that my gait, and feet, were suffering. Still, they have served me well and I have no hesitation paying the price for a new pair.

Wave Walks are great for walking in all kinds of weather. They are waterproof , and that's important when you follow your dog, rain or shine, through dew covered grass, puddles, and the occasional muddy patch. My shoes have often gotten very wet on the outside, but I have never had wet feet while wearing them -- ever.

I'm not affiliated in any way, nor do I get any compensation for this review-of-sorts or if you click on the link I provided. I'm just a happy customer. The link is only there for your convenience.

Bitter Wind Chill

We are experiencing a break from the gloomy dark days and torrential rain. Unfortunately that still doesn't mean that this morning's dog walk was pleasant.

It's terribly cold and windy! It was -9 degrees Celsius with a windchill factor of -15 when I took Kona for her morning walk. (That's 15 degrees and 5 degrees Fahrenheit, for my American readers).

Chilly winds

Puddles are very common here in Chilliwack's "Coastal Rain-forest" climate. Seeing them frozen? Not so much.

I think someone should invent indoor toilet facilities for dogs.

Hot Weather Wear

We've been having some warm weather and poor Flame was roasting in his long pants and long sleeved shirt.

   Hotter Days

I took pity on him and let him take off his shirt.

New glass eyes.

He was happy about that, but after a recent visit by my granddaughter I found him sobbing in the corner -- wearing a DRESS! My granddaughter doesn't think children should go around half naked, not even small elf boys, so she put the dress on him to cover up his bare chest.

If you are a regular reader you might know that Flame originally had a female body and had to wait for months for Tingle to bring him a male body. After all that waiting to be a real elf boy he just couldn't bear the humiliation of wearing a dress.

I told him he was welcome to dig through my fabric stash to find something he would like for a summer t-shirt. He chose a bright and cheerful yellow and I made up his t-shirt that same afternoon.

With temperatures rising and a long summer ahead of us I thought he deserved a pair of shorts too. I randomly chopped some length off of my existing Realfee pants pattern and sewed some simple shorts.

Next time I think I'll make them a bit shorter yet. What do you think? How long should a little elf boy's shorts be anyway? Would mid knee cap be about right?

Happy Canada Day!

About a month ago, in a fit of patriotic exhuberance, I sewed up a short sleeved Canada Day jersey for Gourd.

Gourd, Pumpkin, and Benjamin Bowser

I also managed a Canada Day tank top and red pants for Elfonda.

The dolls were then posed in my usual display area waiting for good weather so that I could do an outdoor photo shoot. You know, a Canada Day picnic or something?

  Happy Canada Day!

But that's about as far as my enthusiasm carried me before I was distracted, absorbed in other hobbies and interests. "Good weather" came and yet I procrastinated, caught up with company, year end school activities and so forth. Well, now that good weather has hung around long enough for it to become unbearably HOT outside and in, I just don't have the oompf to get out there in the heat and blazing sun to do all it takes for a successful photo shoot with the dolls.

In fact, I'm feeling kind of like Peanut and Neelie here. Too hot, tired, and lazy to get up and get moving!

Peanut and Neelie

So I apologize. All you get this year is a few low light, indoor, iPhone photos of the resin gang. This is no reflection on my love for Canada. I live in a great country! The heat, and a general feeling of lethargy, is just really kicking my butt today!
Happy Canada Day!
