Side Fringe

Played around a bit with using clasped weft paired with thrums to create a side fringing effect.

Clasped weft side fringes.

The weft yarn has now gradually worked its way toward orange. I have kept the colour progression of the Kauni Rainbow yarn in the main weft by labelling the bobbins and then winding them onto one bobbin then rewinding them onto another so the colour is reversed and lines up with the bobbins that come before and after. Clear as mud? Sorry, it's hard to explain, but easy to actually do.

I was told to wind it ALL onto bobbins and number them. Then use from highest to lowest and it stays in order. Of course you have to have enough bobbins to do that. I originally learned to do it the way you do it.

There is really no need to do it that way Gene. As you mention, you would need an awful lot of bobbins! I only do two or three at a time and it works out fine. The big thing is to REWIND the bobbins so that the inside then becomes the outside.

I can see how using them in reverse order would eliminate the need to rewind them, but if you are unsure how many bobbins you will need for your project you could end up with a lot of time, and yarn, wasted winding bobbins that end up not being used.

I like that you are like a kid coloring outside of the lines and playing with techniques, colors and textures. What you are creating is truly unique and bursting with so many visual delights. :)

Am I scribbling or creating a masterpiece, hey Ruinwen, sometimes beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I'm really enjoying the process with this one, but I'm liking what is coming out of all the experimenting and playing too.
