Here's just one of the projects I've been working on lately. I finished it up today and the weather cooperated for photos.
It's a newborn sized layette for my hairdresser.
She has found out that her baby, due in early February of 2016, will be a girl.
She had been told that she would never be able to have children, so she's very excited about becoming a mommy.
It felt right to welcome her miracle baby with a hand knit gift.
It's a fairly gender-neutral pattern so I pushed the femininity with a bright pink yarn and added, lacy embellishments.
As with all new born sized layettes I'm sure it took longer to make than the baby will actually spend wearing it.
But perhaps it will be something special to bring the baby home in and then tuck away as a keepsake.

A friend of mine had the set her husband had as a baby. She had photos made of the baby in it. Now that is a special keepsake.
That is so sweet! There's nothing better than miracle babies. I'm so excited for your hairdresser!
I still have the set that my mother brought me and my brothers home in Gene. My own children did wear it a few times, but because I was already a knitter when I became a new mom I made each of my 3 children their own set specifically for the trip home from the hospital. My daughter was welcome to use any of the heirloom sets but chose to bring her first born home in a sweater she had made herself. That's totally understandable. New mom's that are also knitters can't help but want to show off their newborn AND their knitting at the same time. ;-)
This is the second miracle baby I've been blessed to knit for, Anja. (not the same mommy obviously). It's so wonderful to share the joy and excitement of a new mom when years of hoping and praying and crushing disappointments finally comes to an end with a much wanted pregnancy.
This is such an adorable set and will be cherished. :)
