Nine Ribbons

I entered 8 exhibits in the 2019 Chilliwack Exhibition and managed to win 9 ribbons! 7 firsts, a second, and a Best in Show.

Firsts for a "counted cross-stitch on aida",

an "adult hat and scarf", (my Year in Temperatures Scarf with a hat to match)

a "recycled article with a major style change", (a tunic made from duvet cover)

"Spinning - any natural fibre, plied" (a 2 ply cotton)

"Collection of 3 or more decorative items", (16 of my Stitch Meditations")

"Yardage of woven material", (my travelling inlay Saori yardage)

"Wearable article woven with recycled material" (my coat from denim strips).
The coat also won a "Best in Show" rosette.

And in the "Scarf or cowl" category I received a second place. 

My Walking Buddies

Five days a week I enjoy walking with my buddies. Always the fur-girl on the left. Often the handsome fellow on the right too.

We're extremely fortunate to live in such a beautiful area.

With the perfect mix of sunshine and a little rain the foliage at the Blue Heron Reserve has really closed in! 

Naughty Tales!

As we were taking down and packing up the exhibits from the "Fibre Flair" display at the Art Room there was a last minute sale. This lovely young lady was helping with the dismantling of the show and she tried on my "Naughty Tales!" waterfall vest.

It looked fabulous on her and ended up being the item she chose as a birthday gift from her grandmother, who is a member of our guild and one of the members of the art show committee. 

This had been a last minute finish for me, only completed the night before the deadline for jurying of the submitted items. 

I only remembered as it was about to go out the door today that I had never taken the time to photograph it. I like to keep a photographic record of all things I make so I was very happy that she agreed to model it for me.

This is an all cotton vest with travelling inlay and clasped weft patterning. It is sewn in the waterfall style with a hi/lo hemline and the added interest of knotted tails, hence the name, "Naughty Tales".

Another Offering

When I wound the warp for this one ---



I thought maybe it would be for me.



But it seems it had other plans.



The weaving hurried along and before I knew it I had the full 65" woven.



I was back at it early the next morning, releasing the front to turn the warp and weave those beginning warp tails in at the end as weft. With that done I cut it free, twisted the fringe, gave it a bath and hung it to dry.

This morning I did the final work of giving it a press, trimming ends, and securing ribbons.



The final day for submissions for the Christmas Craft Market was extended to today, and this last cowl managed to be finished in time, so I added it to the pile. That makes six Saori cowls for the sale. I hope I've priced them right for this area and they will sell. At $75 Canadian (that would only be about $56.50 US) I'm not getting much for my effort, especially when you factor in material costs. I consider my offerings this year as "testing the waters". If they sell at this price I will undoubtedly make more and raise the price for next year. If they don't sell at this price? Well then it just isn't worth my effort and that will be the last of selling them locally.
