Ever get caught up in a project that there is a good chance you will never wear, but you just have to make it anyway?
This panta (hairband/ear-warmer thingy) is one of those kinds of projects. I saw the pattern on Ravelry and just HAD to make it even though it's rather "out there" for a grandma like me.
Still, there is something about it that appeals to me in a funky, never in public kind of way.
I knit it from , hand spun, hand dyed, hand combed mohair.

Looks great on you! I'm impressed that you could hand comb the fiber, hand spin and hand dye the yarn, and hand knit it - and match both your eyes and your shirt! I never have such serendipity. LOL
Looks like the perfect 'look' for playing with the grandkids!
What are you talking about? It looks great on you!
Thanks everyone. I do like the panta, but I don't think my rather subdued personality is up to the funkiness of it. I feel like I should have multicoloured dreadlocks sticking out of it instead of greying hair!
Lisa, in the interest of full disclosure, I didn't dye the mohair myself. I purchased hand dyed mohair locks from a friend. I did hand comb it though, and then handspun the resulting small bundles. That's how the variegation happened. Wasn't hard to change into a shirt that matched either.....I like wearing bright colours. My home though, is decorated in shades of brown and beige.....which I never wear.
Are you kidding?? You look fabulous dahling - and not at all like a grandma.
I think it looks great on you and there's no reason you couldn't wear it in public.
Thanks restless, I think it looks pretty good too, but it is so outside my normal persona that both my husband and my oldest daughter laughed when they saw the pictures. I guess I'm just not brave enough to be fashion forward like that. If I was younger, maybe?
I love it Auntie Marlene!!! I think I just might have to make one for myself :)
ok, I'll admit- I thought your title was Handspun Panda..haha.. Your project is great that looks like a terrific nexk and nose warmer as well. (I'm thinking of what I need to make myself for the winter with the bus) Love the color..plus you have such pretty blue eyes!
most excellent dude! (am i dating myself, there?)
Okay, I feel the same way you do about wearing bold, hip patterns in public. And my family has laughed when I've tried something like that.
But I can't resist. I'm going to cast one of these on tonight and I'm going to wear it in public. It's a challenge!
Yours looks fabulous!
Thanks Callie, I think you'd look great in a Panta.
I wore my second, more subdued one in public today Becky. Mind you not too many people actually saw me. I wore the beige one to the gym but there weren't many people there today. ~~ At least no one fell over in fits of laughter.
