Sheldon

In or out, he's a cutie!

This is "Sheldon" the turtle, from the free Knitty pattern designed by Ruth Homrighaus. This is destined to be a baby present (shhh, don't tell Kaylen) so I embroidered the eyes using the method suggested by Bogie.

This was a fun knit. Not nearly so difficult as it might look.

Very cute. I love that he comes out of his shell!

So cute!
Without a shell, he reminds me of cartoon turtles in Bugs Bunny who feel naked without their shells!

He looks great, congratulations--and the eyes look good too!

He's a cutie, and on my ever-growing list of "things I want to do but have not time."

Very, very cute......and with embroidered features on a knit body, will be very TASTY, for Kaylen, as well :)

Thanks Alison. I was hoping it would be a lot easier for Sheldon to come out of his shell so that a child could have fun switching around shells of different colors. It's a real tight fit though so without some adult help I don't think Sheldon will be seeing the outside of his shell too often. Perhaps if I make him again I'll try to leave a little more room at the "neck-hole".

I agree Barb. He reminds me of the little fellow that keeps popping out of his shell in "Over the Hedge".

Thanks Bogie. I like the way the felt adds definition and depth to the embroidery. Thanks for the great eye-dea. ;-)

I'm the same way Dave, always more things going onto the "must do" list than I actually have time for.

I've learned something about toys Gail. Whether they are handmade or store bought there is no predicting which ones will become lifelong favorites (becoming "real" like the "Velveteen Rabbit") and which ones will live a sad and neglected life, long forgotten at the bottom of a toy box. I hope Sheldon becomes one of the lucky, loved ones.

Hi. Thanks for the comment about the knitting/darning box. Yes, I know what the contents are...smile. I just wondered if anyone knew about the maker. I would love to see a picture of your lunch box. Thank you.

How cute! Did you use the suggested yarn?

Marlene said...

Yes Nicole, in a rare-for-me move I actually used the exact yarn specified. I knit it to a tighter gauge though. My Sheldon is only 7" - 5" because of the change.
