Traveling Socks

Lately I've been keeping a simple knitting project always at the ready in the car. Projects I'm really interested in don't reliably remain there so I have to choose something really boring, something so boring that I am not tempted to bring it into the house to knit. It also has to be at least a little more interesting that the car trip itself so that I am happy to have it as a diversion.

This, tucked away in the passenger side door awaiting the next time I travel (or wait in the car), is a pair of socks. I took them into the house for a brief heel turning session and promptly replaced them in the car.

Don't expect to see them as a finished project any time soon. I will ONLY be knitting them in the car.

What a good idea. Now if I only had someone else to drive while I knit.

I need to keep a running 'car' project too .. we only have one car right now, so I bring hubby to and from work. And since he's in the car business, I'm often left waiting in the parking lot while he handles one thing or another. Lots of knitting time, there.

That is a great idea, Marlene. I love that the project coordinates with the lunch box! Did you plan that??

: )

My only question is this: why are you bothering to spend your time knitting a project that you find so boring? :-)

Laura,

*I prefer WEARing handknit socks and I'm the only person I know who is willing to knit them for me.

*Knitting socks is less boring than facing a long trip, or a long wait, without knitting at all.

*Socks make a good project for when there are likely to be numerous distractions. Otherwise, yes, I would be knitting something more complicated AND interesting.

That's a great bag for that "shelf" in the car! I keep a knitting project for when I'm in the passenger seat, too :)

Paula My husband and I are both more relaxed if I do the knitting and he does the driving.

Tygher, I laugh when non-knitters say they don't have the patience to knit. I don't have the patience to sit and do nothing during all those otherwise wasted moments.

Denise, The coordination was unplanned. It's not a lunch box it was a "freebee" that a teeth whitening product was sold in. Perfect size for socks. I love that it has clear sides.....it makes the lure of the knitting stronger.
