On To The Booties

The Leaf and Lace baby sweater is complete. I think it turned out very well.

I've also designed and knit a coordinating hat. It's based on the bonnet pattern included in the Beehive layette directions, but in an updated, cordless style as per safety recommendations.

"Drawstrings or cords on children’s clothing should be removed. Children can strangle when drawstrings and cords get caught around their neck or on other objects."

I haven't yet knit the booties. They too could use a bit of redesigning. They have the traditional tie-cords around the ankles. I plan to revise them to be more like a sock, with a ribbed band hidden under a lace fold-over cuff that matches the sweater. I'll let you know how it goes.

I love the Leaf and Lace set--it's beautiful! That pattern is also in the "Forever Favorites--Fifty years of Family Classics" by Leisure Arts. It was changed just slightly--32 sts and 40 rows =4 inches instead of 8.5 sts/inch, and they recommend Patons Kroy 3 Ply for the yarn and don't mention the Beehive Baby yarn.
Did you use Beehive baby? What stitch gauge did you use? I hope you don't mind me asking, but my daughter is pregnant, so I'm thinking of making that baby sweater.
I would like to knit the baby bonnet in the round, but I'm not sure where to stop and start knitting back and forth. Did you knit it in the round? Thanks, Kathy KathyBKnits1@yahoo.com

Thanks for the compliment Liz. Yes, the sweater is knit from the top down. Check this prior entry for pattern sources where they are provided as clickable links.

The baby lace set came out adorable! I just read your laceknitter's post and I also just got the Peacock Feather's pattern and yarn. I think it's the most gorgeous shawl pattern!

I've been looking through a LOT of shawl patterns lately and the Peacock Feathers Shawl is my favorite by far. This lace knitting could get addicting.
