YUM! YUM! I've never had a plum pie, but it sounds delicious!
I didn't know you could make plum pie...I've never heard of that. It looks delicious!!
I'd never had plum pie until a year ago myself, then a neighbour gave us a huge bucket of plums from his neighbour's tree. Knowing I could never use up that many plums before they went bad I looked through my cook books and came up with this gem of a recipe.
Warning: This pie IS tart. I happen to like them that way. If your tastes run toward sweeter pies, double the sugar.
I love plums. That pie sounds, and looks, totally yummy. Thanks!
Yum...I've neer had plum pie...
I don't spin, but want to come back and read your comb post looks interesting.
thank you, the pie came out wonderful! we ate it all within two days.
i used a different crust, called "healthy pie crust" or something like that, on google, with whole wheat flour, oil (i used canola oil) and salt -- i added sugar, mainly to top layer of dough. thanks again!
marlene - urgent quetion:
have you tried this pie with other fruit, instead of plums? do you think it would work with peaches, or kiwis? thanks for your answer.
No "Anonymous" I have never tried this particular recipe with anything other than plums. I have excellent cookbooks (pie specific) so when I make peach pies I use one for that particular fruit. I've never tried kiwi pies.
www.allrecipes.com is a good source for recipes as well.
Try this:
5 cups sliced peaches
1 tsp lemon juice
1 c sugar (or 1/2 c if you prefer a tart pie)
1/4 c flour
1/4 tsp cinnamon
2 Tblsp butter or margerine
Toss peaches with lemon juice. Mix together sugar, flour and cinnamon, mix lightly with sliced peaches. Turn into pastry lined 9 inch pie pan, dot with butter. Cover with top crust with slits cut in it.
Bake at 425 F for 35 to 45 minutes or unitl crust is nicely browned and juice begins to bubble through the slits.
If you like pie and enjoy making it from scratch search high and low for a copy of "Betty Crocker's Pie and Pastry Cookbook". Excellent book. I've only come across ONE recipe in there that I considered a flop.....(Applescotch Pie)....and that was because of my personal dislike of overly sweet pies.
We had a treefull of plums we had halved and frozen. We googled to find something to do with them and found this site.
We found the original recipe too watery/juicy (because the plums had been frozen?) but found that leaving out the lemon juice made it work out just right.
I think it's becoming a family favorite.
Glad to hear you are enjoying the recipe. If the pie is turning out on the runny side it is very likely because you are working with frozen plums. Rather than leaving out the lemon juice which is important for the flavor, try adding a bit more flour.
