Boring Tank Top

Boring pretty much sums this one up. It was boring to knit, and it is not too terribly exciting to wear either. This is the Shapely Tank Top done in plain, boring, white mercerized cotton. I made a few changes to the basic pattern. I lowered the front neckline, starting the cast off at the same level as the armholes.

I made the back neckline lower too, starting it at the height the pattern suggested for the front.

There is nothing really wrong with plain, boring clothing. In fact, I tend to wear plain, solid colored t-shirts and tank tops all the time and will likely get a lot of wear out of this one. It's just that plain, white tank tops are easy to come by and I could have bought something similar and saved myself some time and money.

I beg to differ that you would be able to get something as lovely and fitted as that top. I think the shaping is exceptional. I may try to knit this in a type of wool that is in the picture on the site.

I am in the process of knitting something that is "very easy and very vogue" that is an unusual pattern. You do front and back almost like a triangle (after some ribbing at waist)and then the sleeves match up to the triangle and are bell shaped. There is quite a bit of ribbing in it to make it shapely too. I hope it turns out well. I think I may steal an idea from Chickknits and do the sleeves in a different colour than front and back. It sure is quick to knit. I started it on the weekend and am almost finished front and back. I like doing quick knits in summer... so you can wear them during lovely weather. It's not boring at all though...it is perhaps to you, but truly it isn't.

Cheers,
Suzanne

At least with miles and miles of plain stockinette a person can do other things at the same time, like watch television. I am knitting a lace baby set right now that is absolutely lovely, as well as interesting to knit, but it requires my full attention.

Suzanne, what pattern are you using and where did you find it? The unusual construction sounds interesting.

Marlene, I shall get you the exact issue of the Vogue Magazine (which I got from the VPL). I'd say it's about a year old - the issue. I copied it (don't tell anyone) and I really liked it too...the concept that is. It looks very stylish...well at least on the bone thin, drop-dead gorgeous model in picture! I find that I always have to make patterns longer in the waist and in my passion and enthusiasm for this I didn't - it was so fun doing the decreases so early. You do about three inches of ribbing and then four rows of stockingette and then start decreasing...so I was like okay - let's go. Anyways, I am a little bit worried about the waist and looking like Brittney Spears (at five months) Oh sod it, it'll probably be too short but funky (got word from Rabbitch)

Cheers,
I will go home and look up back issue of pattern for you.

Okay back from home and the pattern came out of the Fall 2000 Vogue Knitting Mag - Pattern #16. I LOVE this pattern. It's something that would make a great gift cuz it is a fast knit and I think many people would like its unusual classy style. Also, as the Yarn Harlot recently commented, there are many parades throughout. If you can't get it...I can always mail it to you. I got it at the Vancouver Public Library in the Knitting section...you may have some luck at your local library. I HATE it when I get a magazine and some thoughtless person has ripped out the pages they want! That drives me crazy.

Have a great day,
Suzanne

Suzanne, sorry it has taken me so long to get back and say "Thanks!". I'll try to hunt that one down.

Have you seen Knitty.com 's "W". That's another tank top with an unusual construction that I simply must try some day.

I don't think it's boring, it's classic and can be worn with EVERYTHING and layered. It's a great fit too! I wish I could fiddle with pattern adjustments that well. Everybody should have at least one of these in their wardrobe.
